about the trek

This classic trekking in the Everest Circuit is a two week trekking for the healthy trekker. Via this route you take yourself across one of the Nepal’s most famous mountain ranges. And finally, all the way to the basecamp of world's highest mountain!

You need a good physical condition because during this trekking you'll walk 5 up to 7 hours a day.

The first day of this trek is already exciting as you'll take a mountain flight to Lukla. The continuously climbing and descending the first couple of days are the most challenging. With this route you walk from west to east, while the rivers and valleys run from north to south. And the final part leads you through Khumbu, the home area of the original Sherpa's.

This EBC trek is such a classical trek that leads you through valleys and stunning forests of rhododendrons, magnolia's and bamboo ... all the way up to the basecamp of worlds' highest mountain!

full board and porter

If you're looking for a more relaxed trek. We also offer this Everest Basecamp trek full board including a porter per two persons.

alternative trekking routes

You can also reach Everest Basecamp by following the original trail Hillary and Tenzing took back in the fifties when they summited Everest first. Take a look at our Everest Basecamp trek from Giri in which you don't take the shortcut via Lukla but follow the entire trail for about 22 days.

Also you might want to consider our adventurous Island Peak climbing. With this adventure you're not only trekking to EBC, but you'll be chasing yourself to Kala Patthar (5545m) AND the top of Island Peak (6189m) as well!

day 02 | Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding -  3/4 hrs.
Early morning your guide takes you to Tribhuwan International Airport for the short but scenic flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport at Lukla (2804m). Upon arrival at the airport, your guide will brief you before beginning the trek towards Phakding (2610m).

After landing you can take our time to explore the village while your Sherpa crew sorts and loads the trekking equipment. Then we begin the trek by descending towards the Dudh Koshi river where we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just above Chaunrikharka (2713m). The walk is easy and after passing through the small village of Ghat (2550m) it is a short walk to Phakding.

day 03 | Trek to Namche Bazaar - 5/6 hrs.
After breakfast we continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. When we enter Sagamartha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar (3441m), known as the gateway to Everest, is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchanges, internet cafes and a bakery. All things considered, Namche is one of the biggest villages along the whole Everest trail.

day 04 | Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar.
We spend a day here in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning of the air. Also we go for a short trek to a museum about the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Today we hike up the Syangboche Airport around Everest View Hotel. From this point, we can see rewarding views of the Himalayas with stunning sunrise and sunset over the panorama of Khumbu peaks.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 05 | Trek to Tengboche Monastery - 5/6 hrs.
The trek continues along the rushing glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi with magnificent views of the mountains. We trek to an altitude of 3860 meters today. On reaching Tengboche you will see the local monastery. Inside the monastery are incredibly ornate wall hangings, a 20-foot sculpture of Buddha and the musical instruments and robes of the Lamas. You'll be be taken to observe a prayer ceremony either in the evening or morning. This depends on how the day's trekking went.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 06 | Trek to Dingboche - 5/6 hrs.
From Tengboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola river and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche (4350m). As a result we'll have exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. Here we take our time so we avoid getting affected by the altitude.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 07 | Trek to Chhukung and trek back to Dingboche - 4/5 hrs.
Today you can enjoy another day for acclimatization. We have a side trip to Chhukung valley via the Imja Khola valley to get a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains, including Lhotse’s massive south wall. Then we return to Dingboche in the evening.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 08 | Trek to Lobuche - 5/6 hrs.
Now the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We continue to climb as we are heading to the altitude of 4910 meters at Lobuche, which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Some breathing problems may arise today due to the altitude.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 09 | Trek to Everest Basecamp then back to Gorak Shep - 7/8 hrs.
This is another big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu glacier and up to Everest Basecamp (5365m). This is the closest you can get to Mount Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Basecamp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak Shep (5180m) for the night.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 10 | Hike up to Kala Patthar and trek down to Periche - 7/8 hours.
This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. Most of the morning we spend on climbing Mount Kala Patthar (5555m), a small peak by Himalayan standards. The ascent is demanding but you get the most magnificent mountain panorama. You see Everest (8848m), the highest point on the planet, towers directly ahead of you. And, on all sides loom other giants such as Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse. After enjoying the victory and views, we make a quick descent to Gorak Shep (5180m), a tiny hamlet, and trek down to Periche (4200m).

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 11 | Trek to Namche Bazaar - 6/7 hours.
From Periche we take a slightly different route down to Orsho, then to Pangboche village. Here is the oldest monastery in the region which contains what is said to be the scalp and bones of a 'Yeti', or the abominable snowman. Leaving the mountains behind us, our descent takes us through Tengboche Monastery (3860m) before continuing back to the town of Namche Bazaar (3441m).

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 12 | Trek to Lukla - 5/6 hours.
Finally we return to Lukla where the trek began, which will seem like a lifetime ago. Ultimately, we enjoy our time by reflecting on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of taking part. Also, you can take your time to explore the town.

overnight at a bed & breakfast

day 13 | Morning flight back to Kathmandu.
During the scenic flight back to Kathmandu, you'll enjoy your last glimpse of the mountains you have recently visited. On arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred back to your starting hotel.

overnight at a bed & breakfast
