What can i expect from this group trek?

The Everest Circuit Group Trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic trekking adventures, offering a journey through the breathtaking landscapes of the Everest region. This trek provides awe-inspiring views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, this trek promises a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and a sense of adventure that is truly unparalleled.

Leave behind the hustle and bustle of modern life — this trek is for you if you’re seeking a true adventure. Forget about consistent phone coverage, well-marked trails, upscale lodges, and luxury comforts. Embrace the rugged and remote, exploring areas few travelers ever reach. Join Ganesh and a fellow trekker on this extraordinary journey through the Everest region, where the trails are as challenging as they are rewarding.

Why should I join the group to Everest Circuit?

The Everest Circuit Group Trek is a massive 16-day trekking adventure that takes you through some of the most remote and less-traveled regions of the Everest area. The trek leads you through the pristine lakes of Gokyo, over the challenging Renjo La Pass, Cho La Pass AND Kongma La Pass, and up to the iconic Everest Base Camp.

If you’ve already trekked the popular Everest Base Camp (EBC) route or the Annapurna Circuit and are looking for a more secluded and challenging adventure, the Everest Circuit offers a perfect alternative. This trek is ideal for those seeking to avoid the crowds that flock to the more famous trails while still experiencing the grandeur of the Everest region.

The Everest Circuit trek is physically demanding, remote, and culturally enriching. It’s an experience that will push your limits while rewarding you with some of the most stunning scenery on Earth.

What is Everest? Where is it located?

Mount Everest, standing at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), is the highest mountain in the world. Known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, Everest is a symbol of human endeavor and the ultimate challenge for mountaineers. Everest is located in the Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal, within the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What are the highlights of the Everest Circuit Trek?

With this challenging trekking route in the Everest region, you walk through the major Everest valleys, by crossing 3 high passes of above 5,000 m (17,500 ft):

  • Kongma La Pass (5,535 m / 18,159 ft)
  • Cho La Pass (5,420 m / 17,782 ft)
  • Renjo La Pass (5,345 m / 17,536 ft)

These passes make it a massive adventure in the world’s most spectacular mountain terrain.

Furthermore, this trek includes visiting the following highlights:

  • Scenic mountain flight to and from Lukla
  • Tengboche Monastery
  • Everest Base Camp (EBC)
  • Kala Pattar Viewpoint
  • Ngozumpa Glacier
  • Turqoise Gokyo Lake
  • Gokyo Ri Viewpoint

What to expect from the Everest Circuit in a nutshell?

The Everest Circuit Trek is an adventure that begins in Lukla and takes you through the diverse landscapes of the Khumbu region. You’ll trek through the Sherpa heartland, with its picturesque villages. The trail leads you past the stunning turquoise lakes of Gokyo, over 3 demanding passes, and up to Everest Base Camp, where the world’s highest peaks surround you.

This trek is not just about reaching Everest Base Camp; it’s about the journey itself. The trail offers breathtaking views of Everest and neighboring giants, as well as the chance to explore the less-visited Gokyo Valley. Be prepared for a true adventure, as the route involves challenging high-altitude passes and rugged terrain. A good level of fitness is essential.

As you climb towards the passes, the air thins, and the trail becomes more demanding. But the panoramic views from the pass make every step worthwhile. The descent back into the valley offers unforgettable vistas of the surrounding peaks, including a closer view of Ama Dablam, often considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

What to expect from accommodations on the Everest Circuit?

The Everest Circuit is a teahouse trek, meaning you’ll stay in basic mountain lodges each night. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, typically offering twin-sharing rooms. While the bedding is provided, bringing a sleeping bag is recommended for extra warmth.

Facilities are basic, with shared bathrooms and limited access to hot showers. Most teahouses have a common area with a wood stove, where trekkers gather in the evenings to warm up and share stories. The higher you go, the colder it gets, so warm clothing and a good sleeping bag are crucial. Meals are provided at the teahouses, with a menu featuring simple but hearty dishes like dal bhat, noodles, and soups to keep your energy levels up.

What to expect from the weather in Everest in October?

October is one of the best months to trek in the Everest region. The monsoon season has ended, leaving behind clear skies and mild temperatures. During the day, temperatures can range from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius in the lower regions, while nights can be significantly colder, especially at higher altitudes. At the passes and Everest Base Camp, temperatures can drop well below freezing.

The weather in October is generally stable, but conditions in the mountains can change rapidly. It’s essential to be prepared for the cold, particularly at night and during early morning starts. Layered clothing, a warm sleeping bag, and proper gear are vital for a comfortable and safe trek. By Mountain People will provide you with a detailed packing list to help you prepare.

How physically demanding is this trek?

The Everest Circuit Trek is challenging, with daily walks of 6 to 8 hours and an altitude range from 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) in Lukla to 5,644 meters (18,519 feet) at Kala Patthar. Experience with high-altitude trekking and proper acclimatization is highly recommended.

Training before the trek is crucial, including cardio exercises, strength training, and hiking practice to prepare your body for the physical demands of the trek. A positive mindset and mental resilience are just as important as physical fitness. The Everest Circuit is a true test of endurance, but the rewards are immense, with every step bringing you closer to the awe-inspiring beauty of the world’s highest mountains.
