About Annapurna

Annapurna treks ensure you of a wonderful time in the Himalayan nature with flawless mountain views. In other words, the variety of scenery is hard to match. And, the villages and monasteries you pass offer a peek into Nepali, Tibetan and trans-Himalayan culture. Also, there is an amazing variety of habitats, from down in the valleys (below 1000m) to the summit of Mount Annapurna (8091m) itself.

The region offers both short and long treks. And with every trek there are fine side trips you could make. Like a hike up to a mountain lake, to a Buddhist temple or a great viewpoint.

Trails along the lower valleys usually go through farming fields. Occasionally they dive into shady forests. However, upstream, you enter spectacular rhododendron forests. And sometimes you see bright white magnolia trees, orchids and ferns. If you are here in spring, you will find yourself in an oasis of spectacular colours. They range from red to pink to white, depending on the altitude. The Circuit Trek in particular goes through all of the different geographies of the region.

Best travel season

The best trekking season for the Annapurna region depends on the route you pick. Annapurna offers suitable treks all year round.

In the summer, during monsoon, it is best to choose a route north of the Annapurna massif. Because that's in the so-called 'rain shadow'. There's much less rain than in the south. Great options are the Annapurna Circuit Trek and Tilicho Lake Trek. Both routes are mostly on the north side of the Annapurna's.

In the winter, it is better to stay on the south or west side of the mountain range. Because, the high pass of Thorong La can be closed due to heavy snow.
