The BEST Dolpa Treks

Dolpa is the largest district of Nepal. It covers an area of 7,889 km2 (3,046 square miles) and has a population of just 42,959 people (2021). A large portion of the district is protected by Shey Phoksundo National Park, protecting endangered animals like the snow leopard, musk deer and the Tibetan wolf. This national park is the only trans-Himalayan National Park in Nepal.

What can I expect from the landscape in this district?

The elevation of the district ranges from 1,525 to 7,625 m (5,003 to 25,016 ft). On the north, it borders Tibet. West, it borders the Nepali districts of Jumla and Mugu. On the west and east it borders the Rukum district. And, it borders the district of Mustang on the south.

Dolpa treks are fascinating treks with the Tibetan feel and a lack of trekkers. Therefore, you will have the opportunity to discover an untouched corner of the Himalayas. The district is a labyrinth of often wide glacial valleys and ridges, that offer spectacular views with remote gompas and villages. The history, wonderful camp sites and the ‘living’ Dolpa itself are a major step back in time. Overall, it is a very challenging, quite diverse and scenically spectacular region.
