About Manaslu
The trek around 8,156 m high Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain, was only opened to travelers since 1991. It is not a busy region by any means, but it is becoming more popular for its range of scenery, cultural variety and its fledgling lodges.
An even newer part of the Manaslu region is Tsum Valley. It was only opened to trekkers in 2008! The people of Tsum are Tsumbas and Tibetan. Much of their trade is with the Kyirong region of Tibet, which lies across two passes at the head of the Shar Khola Valley. In Tsum Valley are many interesting places to visit such as Piren Phu (Pigeon Cave), Rachen Nunnery and Mu Monastery.
