All about the Helambu Trek.

Helambu Trek

The Helambu Trek takes you through a relatively un-spoilt region. Even though it is so close to Kathmandu. Besides, this trek is among the most diverse treks near Kathmandu. Due to the local Hyolmo culture of high mountain people. And, due to the company of green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas.

On the first day of this trek, we enter Shivapuri National Park. From there, we trek to Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati, Sermathang and Melamchi Pul Bazar. The route passes through thick mountain forests with great views over the Himalayas. We will also trek along rice terraces and a number of beautiful Buddhist monasteries.

 

Alternative trekking route

  1. Day 1 Kathmandu (1400m)

    By Mountain People welcomes you at the international airport and brings you to your hotel in Thamel.

    Later this day, we will meet at your hotel or at our office for a pre-trip meeting. We introduce you to your guide and talk about your itinerary. If you have any questions or requests, we would like to hear them from you.

    Note: Please make sure you bring your passport to the meeting along with three copies, two photos and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. We also request you to clear the due balance if any.

  2. Day 2 Chisopani (2300m) - 5 hrs

    Yes, today is the first day of your trek! Your trekking guide picks you up at your hotel, and together you drive to Sundarijal by private vehicle. This takes about an hour.

    From Sundarijal we trek to Chisopani in about four to five hours. Today, we enter the Shivapuri Wild Life Protected Area. And the trail has a tough climb for about three to four hours. Then, the trail drops down for an hour to reach Chisopani. Here, you can see a beautiful sunset in the evening and enjoy the beautiful mountain view.

  3. Day 3 Khutumsang (2446m) - 7 hrs

    It takes about five to six hours to trek to Khutumsang. Today, the trail mostly ascends. In the morning, the trail drops down to Pati Bhyanjyang before it climbs for about two hours after that drop down to Gulbhanjyang. Gulbhyang is a nice village, mostly Tamang people are living there. Along the way, you can see the mountain view of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung and Dorjelakpa. After Gul Bhanjyang, the trail climbs up for about an hour and a half hour to get to the top, and then fifteen minutes left to drop down to reach Khutumsang.

  4. Day 4 Tharepati (3650m) - 6 hrs

    The trail mostly climbs and reaches the altitude of 3800 meters. Tharepati is a very nice view point. From here, you can have a view on both sides. You see Gosainkund and Helambu. Along the trek, you pass many rhododendron trees. Which is the national flower of Nepal and beautifully in bloom during spring.

  5. Day 5 Tarke Ghyang (2560m) - 3/4 hrs

    Today, your trek starts off with a drop down to Melamchigaon. This is nice village of the Sherpa people where you can stop for lunch. After lunch, you can have a look around the village, visit the Monastery, before you continue your trek. At first you drop down all the way to the river Melamchi Khola, cross the bridge, and climb up on the other side all the way to Tarke Ghyang.

  6. Day 6 Kakani (2070) - 3/4 hrs

    Today, the trail is very gentle and mostly downhill. And sometimes, you walk through the forests, that are nice and cool. You stop at Sermathang for lunch in, before you continue your trek to the Sherpa village of Kakani.

  7. Day 7 Kathmandu (1400m) - 5/6 hrs

    Today is the last day of your Helambu trek. The walk is quite short, as it takes takes about two hours to reach Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Here, you take a bus to Kathmandu. The ride takes about three hours.

    After your arrival in Kathmandu, your guide brings you back to your hotel.

    In the evening, we offer you and your guide a farewell dinner together in a traditional Nepalese restaurant.

  8. Day 8 Departure

    If it’s the final day of your holiday in Nepal, we will bring you back to the international airport. Goodbye friends! We hope that we will meet each other again in the future.

Hotel

In Kathmandu, before and after your Helambu short trek, you will be staying at a 3-star hotel with a private bathroom and wifi. These hotels have a prime location. In Kathmandu you will be staying in the travellers neighbourhood Thamel. The hotel is nearby many restaurants, trekking gear shops and supermarkets.

Mountain Lodges

During your Helambu short trek, you will be staying at mountain lodges. Here are double rooms and shared bathrooms.

A hot shower and wifi are also available for an additional fee.
