All about the Poon Hill Trek [Sunrise Viewpoint].

Poon Hill Trek

The Poon Hill Trek is a lovely short trek. It is perfect if you have less time or if it’s going to be your first trekking experience.

It offers you amazing views over the Annapurna mountains from the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3210m). On the day of going to the highest point of this trek, we set off early morning. As a result, we have a breathtaking panorama view when the sun rises above the Annapurna’s.

Most noteworthy along this trek are the views over:

  • Tukuche (6920m)
  • Nilgiri (6940m)
  • Annapurna South (7219m)
  • Hiunchuli (6441m)
  • Tarke Kang (7193m)

This trek even includes views over both worlds 7th highest mountain Dhaulagiri I (8167m) and the 10th highest mountain Annapurna I (8091m).

  1. Day 1 Kathmandu (1400m)

    By Mountain People welcomes you at the international airport and brings you to your hotel in Thamel.

    Later this day, we will meet at your hotel or at our office for a pre-trip meeting. We introduce you to your guide and talk about your itinerary. If you have any questions or requests, we would like to hear them from you.

    Note: Please make sure you bring your passport to the meeting along with three copies, two photos and a readable copy of your travel insurance policy. We also request you to clear the due balance if any.

  2. Day 2 Pokhara (830m)

    Your mountain guide picks you up at your hotel early morning. Together, you take the bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara. This takes about 6 hours.

  3. Day 3 Tikhedhunga (1565m) - 3 hrs

    From Pokhara, we drive with a private vehicle to Nayapul, our starting point. This drive takes about one hour.

    After a short 15-minute walk along the banks of the Modi Khola river we reach Birethanti (1010m). It is a quite large village with many shops and teahouses. From here we continue our trek and follow the northern bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. Then our trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille (1490m) and after a short climb we reach Tikhedhunga (1565m). Today’s walk is quite short and easy, a prelude to our trekking experience in the Annapurna region.

  4. Day 4 Ghorepani (2840m) - 5 hrs

    We move on towards the steep climb to Ulleri, a large Magar village (2070m). The trail ascends more gently from this point through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons. First we trek towards Banthanti (2250m), and then towards Nangethanti (2460m). After a one hour trek we arrive at Ghorepani (2840m).

  5. Day 5 Poon Hill (3210m) & Tadapani (2710m) - 6 hrs

    Early morning, around 5 am, we begin our hike to Poon Hill (3210m). It takes about an hour to climb to the hill, one of the best Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal. From here we can have a spectacular view over the Himalayan ranges with an amazing sunrise.

    After beholding the views we return to Ghorepani for a good breakfast. Then we set off again, off to Tadapani. We climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2960m). After that we descend to Banthanti and finally Tadapani.

  6. Day 6 Ghandruk (1940m) - 5 hrs

    From Tadapani we follow the descending trail through the forests to Ghandruk (1940m). This village is of the Gurung people, an ethnic group of Nepal. The Gurungs have their own dialect, culture, costume and life style. In addition to that Ghandruk is also home to many Gurkha soldiers. It is a famous trekking destination as it is known for its beautiful mountain views. In the afternoon we can visit the Annapurna Conservation Office, museums and explore the village.

  7. Day 7 Pokhara (830m)

    Today, the trek comes to an end. After a short trek to Nayapul we only have a drive left back to Pokhara. In Pokhara you can have a relaxing afternoon and stroll around lakeside.

  8. Day 8 Kathmandu (1400m)

    Today, we take the bus back to Kathmandu. And there, we will bring you to your hotel.

    In the evening, we offer you and your guide a farewell dinner together in a traditional Nepalese restaurant.

  9. Day 9 Departure

    If it’s the final day of your holiday in Nepal, we will bring you back to the international airport. Goodbye friends! We hope that we will meet each other again in the future.

Hotels and Mountain Lodges

Hotels

In Kathmandu and in Pokhara, before and after your Poon Hill trek, you will be staying at a 3-star hotel with a private bathroom and wifi. These hotels have a prime location. In Kathmandu you will be staying in the travellers neighbourhood Thamel. And in Pokhara you will be staying in Lakeside. Both hotels are nearby many restaurants, trekking gear shops and supermarkets.

Mountain Lodges

During your Poon Hill trek, you will be staying at mountain lodges. Here are double rooms and shared bathrooms. Hot shower and wifi are also available for an additional fee.
