Why Group Trekking?

“I can give you many reasons. But here are the 3 main reasons:

  1. For personal contact with your guide
  2. For meeting like-minded people
  3. For the best trip rate

Since the establishment of our trekking agency, Lilly and I have been focused on small-scale treks across Nepal. But, we’ve met many travelers who wanted to travel solo but not alone.

Now that we’ve started operating open groups treks as of 2024, we still focus on small-scale treks over big groups. Here’s 3 reasons why:

  1. More comfort for you
  2. More respect for local communities
  3. Making the most out of your trekking experience

We are looking looking forward to you joining us!

Frequently Asked Questions

About the groups

The groups range from 4 to 8 people.

Feel free to get in touch with us. We’re happy to share information about the ratio of men to women, ages, and nationalities of the participants.

Govinda, co-founder and co-owner of By Mountain People leads some of these groups. Other groups will be led by one of the senior guides in our team.

Govinda was born and raised in Nepal and now lives in the Netherlands with Lilly and their kids. During the high season, he is in Nepal. Govinda speaks English, Dutch, and Nepali.

If your group is led by one of our exceptional guides, he will have at least 15 years of experience and speak good English. Additionally, he will have a lot of knowledge to share about the specific area and local culture.

About the group treks

Yes, meals are included during the trek. This includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with a cup of coffee or tea. Curious about the food options in the mountains? Check out our blog: What To Expect From Trekking Food In Nepal?

In the city, breakfast is included. There are plenty of lovely restaurants near the hotel for lunch and dinner.

You’ll stay in local tea houses and lodges. These are usually simple twin rooms that you share with someone. Want to know what to expect? Read our blog: What to expect from the accommodations during my Annapurna trek?

Before and after the trek, you’ll stay in a comfortable 4-star hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu, sharing a twin room. If you’re trekking in the Annapurna region, you’ll likely also stay in Lakeside, Pokhara. In both locations, the hotels are centrally located, close to many shops and restaurants.

Would you prefer to stay in a private room or a different class of hotel? That’s possible. Feel free to discuss your wishes and preferences with us.

Yes. On longer treks and those going to higher altitudes, there are planned rest days for acclimatisation and recovery. If you’re unsure if this is enough for you, feel free to discuss it with Govinda.

For trekking you will need sturdy walking shoes or boots. This is the most important thing, since your feet will be your main form of transportation. 🙂

Furthermore, you will do yourself a favor if your clothes are comfortable and dry quickly. For a complete packing list, feel free to request our packing list.

If this is going to be your first trek or if you need many new items, do consider buying or renting clothings and gear in Nepal. It is very affordable and there are plenty of outdoor gear shops that sell anything you might need. If you like, we can recommend you a shop nearby your hotel in Kathmandu.

During the trekking, there will be one porter for every two travellers. Each porter carries up to 10 kg / 22 lbs of luggage in a duffel bag provided by By Mountain People.

Remember to bring a smaller daypack that you will carry yourself. This should hold your valuable items like your travel documents and money, and things you’ll need along the way, like water, snacks, sunscreen, etc.

Want to leave something at the hotel for after your trek? Such as a set of clean clothes, souvenirs, or other items? That’s possible.

In emergencies, we arrange a helicopter evacuation and medical support.

Ensure you have good travel insurance that covers emergency assistance and evacuation up to the maximum altitude of your itinerary. Before your trip starts, you must share a copy of your travel insurance with us.

Absolutely! in fact it is a great place to start. 🙂

As part of our job, one of the most important things we do is ascertain your experience, fitness level and ambitions, and select the trek and group that matches the best.

About traveling Nepal

The best times to visit are spring and autumn, particularly April-May and October-November. In spring, you’ll see beautiful magnolias and rhododendron forests in bloom. In autumn, Nepal celebrates its major festivals.

We always organise our group tours during these periods, giving you the best chance for good weather and stunning views.

Absolutely! You can add extra days. Let us know in advance so we can arrange it for you.

You book these yourself. If you’re unsure which flight is best or, how to obtain your Nepal visa, we’re happy to help.
