All about this group trek

The short trek to Mulde Hill & Poon Hill is an easy trek in the Annapurna region. It’s perfect for impressive panorama sunrise views of the entire Annapurna mountain range.

This is a nice trekking goal if your are looking for a short trek that fits in a short timeframe, or if this is going to be your first trekking experience.

Where are Mulde Viewpoint and Poon Hill located?

Both Mulde Viewpoint and Poon Hill are located in the Annapurna region. This region is north from Pokhara which is about 400 km west of Kathmandu. These viewpoints lie east of the popular trekking destination of Ghorepani.

5 reasons why you should trek to Mulde Viewpoint

  1. Panorama mountain views from lower elevation
  2. A quieter, more relaxing trekking experience at Mulde Hill
  3. Real mountain trekking experience
  4. Blooming rhododendron forests in March
  5. Best short trek from Pokhara (4 days)

What to expect from Mulde Viewpoint and Poon Hill?

Mulde Hill, also called Mulde Viewpoint or Muldai Hill, is a relatively new viewpoint, offering a nice short trekking experience in the region. This brilliant spot is located at an altitude of 3,640 m (11,930 ft), which offers 360-degree mountain sceneries of Annapurna, scopes of Fishtail, Gangapurna, Lamjung, and beautiful valleys.

Poon Hill remains the most popular spot, especially during peak season, it does have a few perks. There’s a viewing tower that gives you a great view. And during the spring and autumn months, you can enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, tea, or coffee from a small shop.

What makes this particular trek so special?

This trek gives you the best of both worlds: the popular Poon Hill and the quiet Mulde Hill. You can enjoy the stunning sunrise at Poon Hill and the peaceful atmosphere of Mulde Hill, with the same beautiful mountain views but fewer crowds. You also pass through charming villages like Ghandruk and experience the rich local culture and traditions.

The trek takes you through a variety of landscapes, from colorful rhododendron forests to mountain meadows, especially beautiful in spring. For photographers, the hills and forest ridges offer amazing views of snow-capped mountains, perfect for capturing great photos.

How big is the group?

Our group treks are designed to be small and personal, with 4 to 8 guests and one guide. There may be porters if booked. We keep our groups small because it offers many benefits:

  • Great group spirit: Smaller groups mean a friendly, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can connect
  • More personal attention: You get more time with your guide, without the high costs of a private trek
  • Comfort and respect: It’s the ideal size for our team and ensures we travel responsibly, supporting local communities

Which additional services does BMP have to offer?

You can book your entire trip to Nepal with us. Here are a few examples of additional travel services we offer:

  • Porter services
  • Accommodation in Kathmandu (various types available on request)
  • City tour in Kathmandu
  • Jungle safari in the south (highly recommended!)
  • Airport transfer upon arrival in Nepal
  • All other domestic transportations

Travel itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! Your international flight lands at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

After a good night of sleep and hopefully beating the jetlag, we will meet for a pre-trip meeting. You will be introduced to your mountain guide (and porter) and we will discuss your itinerary. If you have any questions or requests, please ask!

What’s next? You can use this day to adjust to the different timezone, altitude and climate. Also, you can prepare yourself for your trek and do some last shoppings at one of the many outdoor gear shops in the area.

You have 2 options for traveling from Kathmandu to Pokhara.

  1. Tourist bus: about 7 hours
    • This is the cheapest option
  2. Domestic flight: 30-minutes
    • This option allows you to spend the day exploring Pokhara

Please contact us if we can assist you with domestic transportation.

Your guide and a driver will be ready to drive to Ghandruk early morning. This will be the real starting point of our Mulde Hill Trek with Poon Hill together!

From Ghandruk, we head towards Tadapani, a popular stop for trekkers on the Annapurna trail. The trail goes uphill all the way through a thick forest of oak and rhododendron. There are some steep ascents en route that can leave you breathless. The gleaming summits of Annapurna South and Machhapuchre (Fishtail Peak) appear closer as we climb higher. After the climb, we will finally reach the village of Tadapani.

private drive – lunch & dinner – mountain lodge

Leaving Tadapani, we make our way toward Dobato. The trail is filled with trees and boulders covered in moss and lichen. There are some steep uphills and downhills with fantastic views of the Annapurna range. On reaching Dobato we make our way to a local teahouse.

Dobato is a small settlement filled with few houses and a couple of teahouses. Not many trekkers visit Dobato, as it lies farther away from the popular trails. Because of less tourist traffic, the amenities offered at the teahouses in Dobato are quite basic.

Once you reach the teahouse, you can rest for a while and take some refreshments. If you have the stamina, you can already hike to Mulde Viewpoint for sunset.

breakfast, lunch and dinner – mountain lodge

To enjoy the sunrise, we make an early morning hike to the Mulde Viewpoint. While Annapurna South, Annapurna I and Fishtail Peak appear quite close you can see other peaks like Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Baraha Shikhar, Lamjung Himal and other giants. It looks like they’re shining majestically in the golden rays of the early morning sun.

After enjoying the view and taking pictures, we descend to Dobato. We’ll have our breakfast here, whereafter we proceed towards Ghorepani. You walk past the ridge of the Mulde Peak and walk through a dense forest of rhododendrons. During spring the entire forest is heavenly filled with pink and red rhododendron flowers.

An up-and-down trail takes us past small brooks and waterfalls and mountainside villages. An ascent up a stone staircase brings us to the settlement of Ghorepani, an ancient pit stop that was once a hub for mule caravans of traders traveling along the Tibet salt trade route.

breakfast, lunch  and dinner – mountain lodge

Let’s wake up before sunrise again, and head to Poon Hill! This viewpoint lies right above Ghorepani. Use a head torch to light your way in the dark, while climbing a series of steps to reach Poon Hill. It’s a tough ascend to the top with rewarding views.

It’s an amazing experience to see the mountains light up by the first light of the dawn. The snow-covered mountains change color from pink to golden as the sun slowly rises. It’s a striking sight, one that you will cherish and remember for a looong, long time.

After enjoying the view, we walk back down to Ghorepani again for a hearty breakfast. Then we head down to Hille, the final destination of the trek. Our vehicle will be waiting to drive us back to Pokhara.

In the evening, the group, guide, and any porters come together one last time for a farewell dinner in Lakeside Pokhara.
