All about this trek

The short Mulde Trek, also known as Mulde Viewpoint of Muldai Viewpoint, is a newly opened viewpoint in the Annapurna region. This is probably the best viewpoint to see the Annapurna range from lower elevation and upclose. is a nice trekking goal if your are looking for a short trek that fits in a short timeframe, or if this is going to be your first trekking experience.

What can I expect from Mulde Viewpoint?

Mulde Hill is a relatively new viewpoint, offering a nice short trekking experience in the region. This brilliant spot is located at an altitude of 3,640 m (11,930 ft), which offers 360-degree mountain sceneries of Annapurna, scopes of Fishtail, Gangapurna, Lamjung, and beautiful valleys.

Where is Mulde Viewpoint located?

The Mulde Viewpoint is located on Mulde Hill, in the Annapurna region. This region is north from Pokhara which is about 400 km west of Kathmandu. The viewpoint lies east of the popular trekking destination of Ghorepani, Poon Hill.

What makes the Mulde Trek special?

Mulde is less crowded than other trekking destinations in the area. Such as Ghorepani Poon Hill, Dhampus and Ghandruk. However, with this trek, you pass through the flowery village of Ghandruk and visit Poon Hill as well.

You’ll witness many various ethnic groups and their exceptional culture and tradition; and captivating splendor of snow-capped mountains. For Photographers the hills and rhododendron forested ridgelines that offer an enthralling view and could be the best spot. During the spring this trail will be colorful with the Rhododendron flowers.

If you want to skip Ghorepani and just want to enjoy the peaceful hike than Rugged Trails will customize the short trek up to Mulde Hill or Mulde viewpoint. By doing this Mulde viewpoint trek will be for 2 days from Pokhara.

5 reasons why you should trek to Mulde Viewpoint

The highlights

Travel itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! Your international flight lands at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

After a good night of sleep and hopefully beating the jetlag, we will meet for a pre-trip meeting. You will be introduced to your mountain guide (and porter) and we will discuss your itinerary. If you have any questions or requests, please ask!

What’s next? You can use this day to adjust to the different timezone, altitude and climate. Also, you can prepare yourself for your trek and do some last shoppings at one of the many outdoor gear shops in the area.

Early morning, you catch a tourist bus to Pokhara. The ride will take about 6 hours.

Option: To save time, you can opt for a 30-minute flight to Pokhara instead. This would give you the opportunity to explore the peaceful city by the lake. Contact us for more details.

Your guide and a driver will be ready to drive to Ghandruk early morning. This will be the real starting point of our Mulde Trek together!

From Ghandruk, we head towards Tadapani, a popular stop for trekkers on the Annapurna trail. The trail goes uphill all the way through a thick forest of oak and rhododendron. There are some steep ascents en route that can leave you breathless. The gleaming summits of Annapurna South and Machhapuchre (Fishtail Peak) appear closer as we climb higher. After the climb, we will finally reach the village of Tadapani.

private drive – lunch & dinner – mountain lodge

Leaving Tadapani, we make our way toward Dobato. The trail is filled with trees and boulders covered in moss and lichen. There are some steep uphills and downhills with fantastic views of the Annapurna range. On reaching Dobato we make our way to a local teahouse.

Dobato is a small settlement filled with few houses and a couple of teahouses. Not many trekkers visit Dobato, as it lies farther away from the popular trails. Because of less tourist traffic, the amenities offered at the teahouses in Dobato are quite basic.

Once you reach the teahouse, you can rest for a while and take some refreshments. If you have the stamina, you can already hike to Mulde Viewpoint for sunset.

breakfast, lunch and dinner – mountain lodge

To enjoy the sunrise, we make an early morning hike to the Mulde Viewpoint. While Annapurna South, Annapurna I and Fishtail Peak appear quite close you can see other peaks like Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Baraha Shikhar, Lamjung Himal and other giants. It looks like they’re shining majestically in the golden rays of the early morning sun.

After enjoying the view and taking pictures, we descend to Dobato. We’ll have our breakfast here, whereafter we proceed towards Ghorepani. You walk past the ridge of the Mulde Peak and walk through a dense forest of rhododendrons. During spring the entire forest is heavenly filled with pink and red rhododendron flowers.

An up-and-down trail takes us past small brooks and waterfalls and mountainside villages. An ascent up a stone staircase brings us to the settlement of Ghorepani, an ancient pit stop that was once a hub for mule caravans of traders traveling along the Tibet salt trade route.

breakfast, lunch  and dinner – mountain lodge

Let’s wake up before sunrise again, and head to Poon Hill! This viewpoint lies right above Ghorepani. Use a head torch to light your way in the dark, while climbing a series of steps to reach Poon Hill. It’s a tough ascend to the top with rewarding views.

It’s an amazing experience to see the mountains light up by the first light of the dawn. The snow-covered mountains change color from pink to golden as the sun slowly rises. It’s a striking sight, one that you will cherish and remember for a looong, long time.

After enjoying the view, we walk back down to Ghorepani again for a hearty breakfast. Then we head down to Hille, the final destination of the trek. Our vehicle will be waiting to drive us back to Pokhara.

In Pokhara you can relax at your hotel. Or, you can spend the evening strolling down lakeside and experiencing the nightlife.

breakfast, lunch – drive

Today, it’s time to hop on the bus back to Kathmandu.

Option: To save time, you can opt for a scenic 30-minute mountain flight to Kathmandu, instead of taking the bus. This would give you the opportunity to explore the city.
