The Khopra Danda Trek is a detour off the popular trails of the Annapurna region. This is a great 9-day trek via beautiful little villages, surrounded by terraced farming lands. All the way to the remote Khopra ridge (3,360 m).
The trail goes through lush pine, oak, rhododendron and bamboo forests and offers gorgeous mountain views. Khopra Danda itself is a ridge, that offers a fine viewpoint.
From the Khopra ridge, you can overlook the Kali Gandaki River far below in the world’s deepest gorge. As well as the worlds highest peaks, covered with snow and ice. With this trek, you can have the stunning panorama views in a quiet and solitude matter.
Apart from the fantastic landscapes, you can directly support local communities during the trek. These are the communities that generally miss the opportunity of doing business by being off the main trail.
You will trek through and stay in beautiful villages of Magar, Gurung, Kami, Damai, Brahmin, and Kshetri people.
Yes, you can! At the highest point of the Khopra Danda Trek, at Khopra ridge, you don’t have to take a rest day. From this point, you can hike up to Khayer Lake (4,600 m).
On this even higher point, you can have the most spectacular, picturesque and breath-taking views of snowcapped peaks and mesmerizing landscapes. If the weather is clear, you can have awesome 180-degree mountain views. This means you can see Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m) and Manaslu (8,163 m).
Of course! Actually, we encourage you to do so. Because that makes this trek unique and truly YOURS! Obviously, you don’t need to figure it all out by yourself. We are here for you. Do you want to speed up and make it extra challenging? Or, take it easy and slow? Just contact us, and let us know what you’d like to do.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Note: please, make sure you bring your passport to the meeting, along with your travel insurance policy. Carry both the original policy and a copy for us. We wil also request you to clear the due balance, if any.
What’s next? You can use this day to adjust to the different timezone, altitude and climate. Also, you can prepare yourself for your trek and do some last shoppings at one of the many outdoor gear shops around your hotel.
breakfast – hotel
Early morning, your mountain guide picks you up from your hotel. Together, you take the bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara. This will take about 6 hours.
breakfast – bus – hotel
Option: To save time, you can opt for a 30-minute flight to Pokhara, instead of taking the bus. This would give you the opportunity to explore this peaceful city by the lake. Contact us for more details.
From Pokhara, a driver takes you with a private vehicle to the starting point of the trek at Nayapul. This drive takes about an hour and a half.
After a short 15-minute walk along the banks of the Modi Khola river, we will reach Birethanti (1,010 m). This is a quite large village with many shops and teahouses. From here, we follow the northern bank of the Bhurungdi Khola.
The trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille (1,490 m) and after a short climb we will reach Tikhedhunga (1,565 m). Now there’s only ahead of us, a steep staircase made of stone. By climbing the steep steps we reach the Magar village of Ulleri (2,070 m).

From Ulleri, the trail ascends more gently and through fine forests of oak and rhododendron. First, we will trek towards Banthanti (2,250 m), and then towards Nangethanti (2,460 m). From there, there is only a one hour trek left till we arrive at Ghorepani (2,840 m).

Early morning, around 5 AM, we will begin our hike to Poon Hill (3,210 m). It takes about an hour to climb the hill, one of the best and popular Himalayan viewpoints in Nepal. From here, you can have a spectacular view over the Himalayan ranges with an amazing sunrise.
After beholding the mountain views, we return to Ghorepani for a good breakfast. Then, we will hit the trails again and enter the more quiet area, off the popular Poon Hill trail. We will pass the village of Chittre, descend and cross a suspension bridge closeby a local water mill. And, walk through the village fields and ascend to Swanta (2,200 m).

Today, along the way we can get wonderful views of Mount Dhaulagiri with the mountain providing a lovely backdrop to the terraced fields and traditional houses in the nearby villages. The trail continues being uphill and steep, all the way to the hillside to Khopra Danda (3,660 m).

If you like to explore the area, we can hike up to the holy Khayer Lake (4,660 m). This return trip takes almost a full day. Since it is a remote area, we will need to bring water and food for the day.
It will take about 5 hours to reach Khayer Lake, a rarely visited sacred fresh water lake. With its altitude of 4,660 m, it is even higher than Annapurna Base Camp. We can spend some time exploring the Khayer Barahi temple area, and watch different varieties of birds before we go back to Khopra Danda.

From Khopra, you cross another ridge and trek down again. Slowly the trail becomes more flat and you enter the forest. If you like, you can make a small detour via Mulde Peak (3,637 m) for an excellent mountain panorama. After enjoying some time here, you continue the walk to Dobato.
Dobato, which literally means junction of two roads, is not more than a few teahouses that are only under operation during season time. Here you will have magnificent views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South.

From the rhododendron and bamboo forests of Dobato, you go further down till you reach Tadapani (2,710 m). Today, you will feel again that the trail becomes more flat and the walk easier.
