The BEST Annapurna Treks
The best Annapurna treks
Annapurna treks are the BEST, according to us and trekkers worldwide. But why? And where is this place exactly? Let’s dive into that right away.
200 km west from Nepals capital of Kathmandu, you will find the much quieter city of Pokhara. From this lakeside town, you can see a great wall along the northern horizon. Now THIS is the gorgeous Annapurna mountain range.
These mountains have a HUGE VARIETY of trekking routes to offer. From easy and short hikes in the flowery foothills, to spectacular valleys that feel like Tibet and require special permits to visit. And every trek offers fine sidetrips too: to a remote lake, hidden valley, Buddhist temple or a great viewpoint.
But whatever route you choose, one thing is for sure: the variety of the great Annapurna mountains, the remote villages, the monasteries and high passes will just blow you away.
What can I expect from the landscape?
Trails along the lower valleys usually go through farming fields. Occasionally they dive into shady forests. However, upstream, you enter spectacular rhododendron forests. And sometimes you see bright white magnolia trees, orchids and ferns.
If you are trekking in de Annapurna mountains in spring, you will find yourself in an oasis of spectacular colors. They range from red to pink to white, depending on the altitude.
Want to trek through ALL of the different geographies of the region? We recommend you to take a look at our Circuit Trek and Tilicho Lake Trek in particular.
What is the best travel season for Annapurna treks?
This region offers suitable treks all year round. The best trekking season for you depends on the route you pick.
In the summer, during monsoon, it is best to choose a route north of the mountain range. Because these are in the so-called ‘rain shadow’. There’s much less rain than in the south. Great options are the Circuit Trek and Tilicho Lake Trek. Both routes are mostly on the north side of the mountain range.
In the winter, it is better to stay on the southern or western side of the mountain range. Because, the high pass of Thorong La can be closed due to heavy snow.
